We made the first version to play at a friend's birthday party.

As the year passed, so did more and more birthdays. We couldn't believe how many people enjoyed playing this simple game.

Now, we're bringing it to you: your parties, game nights, and kitchen tables.

We hope you enjoy playing this game half as much as we did, because we had a blast.

HOW TO PLAY

Six steps. About a minute to learn. Then it's all about the words.

How to Play rule card showing six illustrated steps: set up, read the phrase, write your response, submit anonymously, pick a winner, and next turn
  1. Get ready

Shuffle the 52 Reader Cards. Give each player or team one writing surface. Choose the first Reader.

  2. Read the phrase

The Reader draws a card and reads its phrase aloud. The Reader does not write an answer.

  3. Say it better

The Reader starts a 60-second timer.

Everyone else writes one creative way to express the same basic idea.

    Teams collaborate on one response.

  4. Keep it secret

When time runs out, players stop writing and submit their responses face-down.

The Reader closes their eyes while responses are collected and mixed.

  5. Pick a winner

The Reader opens their eyes, reads the anonymous responses, and selects their favorite.

The winning player or team earns the Reader Card.

  6. Next turn

The Reader role moves clockwise to the next player or team.

Shuffle the remaining Reader Cards and begin again.

FIRST TO 7 READER CARDS WINS!

GAMEPLAY EXAMPLE

Here's how one phrase can turn into something better. One card from the deck, three different answers.

Prompt

"I’m Hungry"

  • Possible response "I could eat a horse."
  • Possible response "I could eat an entire Costco Pizza."
  • Possible response "Time for a Buffet."

Same thought. Different words. The Reader decides which response wins.

STUCK? ASK FOR HELP.

During the 60-second writing period, you may trade one previously earned Reader Card for a creative suggestion from another competing player or team.
